It’s no secret that Major League Baseball has a wide range of awards given out to its best players throughout the year. From the Golden Glove awards for best defensive players, to the Silver Slugger for the most home runs, it’s important to recognize the best of the best that come through the leagues every season.
It’s interesting to note that MLB Shop has been handing out these awards since the early 1940’s and during that time, a full list of awards has developed. Today, I wanted to share with you a list of each award that’s handed out annually and what it means.
First up we have the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award. Each year, the player that makes the biggest impact on the All-Star Game is given this award. In recent years, we’ve seen some of the best players in the league take home this prestigious accolade.
Additionally, we also have the Rookie of the Year Award. This yearly award is given to the best freshman in the entire league. It’s cool to be nominated for this award and it’s even better when you get to hoist it in the air for your team.
The Cy Young Award is another one that’s given out at the end of the season. It’s given to the best pitcher in the entire league, regardless of their team. It’s a prestigious award that only the most elite players in the league are given and it’s highly sought after.
The Gold Glove Award is another yearly award that’s given to the best defensive players in the entire league. This one is based on stats and the overall impact that a player has had on the defensive side of the game throughout the season.
Finally, we have the Silver Slugger Award. This one is given to the best hitters in the entire league, regardless of their defensive performance. It’s also a prestigious award that’s highly sought after, as it recognizes a player’s impact on the offensive side of the game.
Now that you’ve got a better understanding of the awards, I thought I’d share some more details about them. For starters, there’s the MVP award, which actually stands for “most valuable player” and is given at the end of each regular-season to the best overall player.
The American League and National League Player of the Year Award is similar to the MVP award, in that it’s given at the end of each regular-season to the best player in the league. Usually the MVP is selected from one of the players that receive this award.
We also have the Manager of the Year Award. This is given to the best manager based on their performance and achievements throughout the whole season. It’s important to recognize the impact a manager has on a team’s success and this is one way that MLB does it.
Now that you’re aware of the awards, let’s discuss the team awards. The World Series Champion is given to the team that emerges victorious from the final game. This is usually celebrated with a trophy and the team usually organizes a parade in their hometown to honor their accomplishment.
The Commissioner’s Trophy is also given annually, and it’s to recognize the best team in the entire league. This award isn’t necessarily given to the team that wins the World Series, but to the team that has the best overall record throughout the regular season.
Finally, the Division Champion Award is given to teams that win their respective division. This is an important award and quite often is the first step to winning the World Series. It’s a great achievement for a team to get this award and signifies the hard work they’ve put in to reach it.
Now that we’ve gone over the awards, let’s talk about the history of some of them. For instance, the MVP award was first given out in 1931 to Hall of Famer, Grove. Along with the Rookie of the Year Award, which was established in 1940 and first awarded to Wally Berger of the Boston Braves.
The Gold Glove Award has been around since 1957, when Hall of Famer, Brooks Robinson, won the first one. The American League and National League Player of the Year Awards were established in 1947 and have been given out every year since then. Lastly, the Commissioner’s Trophy was introduced in 1967 and has been given out annually.
So, there you have it! A full list of the MLB awards that are given out each and every year. It’s always exciting to see this list of awards at the end of the season, it’s a great way to recognize all the hard work and effort that goes into the game.
Now that I’ve gone over the awards, you might be wondering who’s in contention to win one. Well, one of the biggest stories in the league this year is the battle between the two American League MVP hopefuls, Alex Bregman and Mike Trout. Both players have put up outstanding numbers and have been a major part of their respective team’s success this season.
While only one can eventually win the award, it’s interesting to see that two of the best players in the league are going head to head in the race. It’s also amazing to see how to save mlb 13 on classic moder many quality players there are throughout the league.
The same can be said for the National League MVP race. Cody Bellinger and Christian Yelich have both put up amazing numbers and it’s been fun to watch them go head to head in an attempt to take home the award.
In terms of the American League and National League Player of the Year awards, it’s quite possible that Trout and Bellinger could win both of them. Again, it’s interesting to see the impact that two of the best player in the league can have on a single season.
Let’s take a look at the Manager of the Year Award as well. This is usually voted on by media members, and while there are some good choices, it’s quite possible that AJ Hinch could take home the hardware. He’s done an incredible job of leading the Astros and has them in position to make a deep postseason run this year.
It’s also possible that one of the rookie players could take home the Rookie of the Year Award. It’s been great to watch the young players make an impact on the league this season, and there are certainly a few that are in contention for this award.
Going over to the Cy Young Award race, it’s been a real battle this season between the American and National League hopefuls. On the American League side, Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander have both been great this season and it’s been fun to watch them compete for the award. In the National League, Jacob deGrom has been dominant this season and he’s put himself in a good position to bring home the hardware.
Finally, let’s talk about the Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards. These two awards are usually given to the best defensive and offensive players respectively and it’s always fun to see who wins them. There are some great players in contention and it’ll be interesting to see who takes home the hardware.
